Car Wash

As students go home after the semester ends at University of Richmond, the campus has become quiet at all hours. However, today was different as Givology Spiders held a car wash using the facilities behind the printing shop. The new president David Davenport and several others such as the chapter’s advisor Joanita S. and her sister Marylove, and Task Force members Iria J. and friends such as MaryBeth offered their time to wash the cars. I stopped by as a customer and got my Gusgus (my reliable toyota friend) cleaned up . While I was there, several task members and givology supporters from the Richmond community stopped by. Many of them were university workers, making it easier for them to stop by. They are still hard at work in the hot Richmond sun as I type right now, and I have so much admiration for this crew of people. I can’t wait to hear about the results of the fundraiser. Stay tuned, pictures will be posted!

Concert Benefit 3-20-10

Givology Spiders hosted a concert benefit on March 20th and it was a great success! There we raffled off the diamond necklace and watches, had bands perform, and held an a cappella sign-off, which was a lot of fun. Please check out our pictures. Thanks.

An Introduction

Welcome to the new official website of Givology Spiders, the University of Richmond chapter of Givology.org.  As a group we hope to create interest, awareness, and ultimately activity in our project, the Circle of Peace School. Along with a semester full of events on campus, we hope to engage an online audience. We have established accounts on facebook.com, twitter.com, and there is already much to read about and discover on givology.org as well as the website for the Peace School, http://peaceprimaryschool.blogspot.com/.  Here at Givology Spiders, we want to provide insight to the topics and issues that interest us as a chapter, and hopefully with this blog that interest and passion will spread.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jason Foreman. I will be the chief blogger for Givologyspiders.  My involvement with Givology is the product of my friendship with Joanita Senoga, founder of the Circle of Peace School.  I began working for Joanita three years ago at the University of Richmond Library and it was then that I first learned about this wonderful school she started.  Her passion for bettering the lives of the students there and the level of energy she maintained in pursuing bigger and better things for them was instantly contagious.  My goal is to discuss issues of education in Africa, specifically focusing on those arising in Uganda and the Circle of Peace school . Ultimately we want to improve the quality of  these childrens’ lives through education, and understanding what influences that is what will help us better achieve that.
